Falcon® Electric, Inc. Announces New Compact, Lightweight
Voltage & Frequency Converters

September 29, 2003 – Irwindale, CA - Falcon Electric, Inc. unveils new 1, 1.5 and 2 kVA Voltage & Frequency Converters called the ED UVS Plus Series. The ED Series™ UVS Plus® utilizes Falcon’s patented regenerative on-line inverter technology. They uniquely offer voltage/frequency conversion, precision voltage/frequency regulation and optional battery backup in one solution. They complement the already released 3 and 4kVA ED Series UVS Plus Frequency Converters.

Versatility
The ED Series UVS Plus makes a breakthough in versatility--providing users with new configuration options. It allows users to use or test U.S. equipment overseas or foreign equipment in the U.S. without having to change the existing equipment. Users simply use the ED Series to convert voltage and/or frequency. The ED Series can even handle 400 Hz input, making it ideal for military/aerospace applications. The 1, 1.5 and 2kVA products can be configured to accept 120-220Vac, 45-440Hz input/output in any combination. For example, users can order a 60 Hz input and 400 Hz output or 400 Hz input and 50 Hz output at the appropriate voltages.

The ED Series is presently being used by the U.S. Military in aviation applications to provide 120Vac, 60 Hz computer-grade power, while operating from 120Vac, 400 Hz aircraft power.

Compact and Lightweight
Compared to other comparable products, the ED Series products are very compact and lightweight-- basic model dimensions for 230Vac input are: 13.5”(H) x 6.25”(D) x 19.4”(W); the 1 kVA weighs only 41 lbs. The 1.5 kVA and 2 kVA weigh only 64 lbs., respectively.

These products offer numerous features at competitive prices. Discount pricing is available for quantity orders. Contact the factory for pricing.

Functionality
The Falcon Electric ED Series UVS Plus takes the incoming utility voltage, rectifies it to a regulated DC voltage - from which a new AC output is generated. The result is a clean, precision regulated output voltage and frequency irrespective of the input source. This makes the ED Series UVS Plus the ideal solution for powering line-sensitive equipment in any power environment, including the dirtiest of generator sources.

The ED Series UVS Plus offers enhanced surge start-up capability and can start loads that exhibit greater than a 1000% inrush current when started from the utility. Such loads include motors, multiple computers or incandescent lighting.

ED Series models without internal batteries offer a unique ride-through capability of several cycles and can be used in very harsh environments, such as remote or mobile applications where temperature extremes would be a problem for off-the-shelf on-line UPS products.

Finally, selected models with internal batteries provide a unique optional feature of DC start-up capability. For users who do not have access to utility power, these ED models can operate from a battery source and provide clean power to critical equipment.
