FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Falcon® Electric Enhances Intelligent Lightweight ED-FPC Series™Popular COTS Converters Now Give Users RS-232 Intelligent Communications
Irwindale, Calif. – January 27, 2011 – Falcon Electric, Inc. (www.falconups.com), exhibitor at this week’s WEST 2011 expo (booth #2042) and an award-winning provider of custom and Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) power solutions for the military and aerospace markets, announces communications enhancements to its intelligent and lightweight ED-FPC Frequency and Phase Converters. Now, the ED-FPC includes dual RS-232 ports that enable users to remotely control and monitor the unit in real time – both locally and via Falcon’s SNMP/HTTP agent. “Falcon Electric continues to innovate based on our customers’ input,” explained Michael Stout, vice president of engineering for Falcon Electric. “The communications enhancements to our intelligent ED-FPC converters is a prime example of how our engineering team works closely with our customers – in this case a U.S. Army contractor – to fully understand their power requirements and develop a solution that best meets their needs.”As one of the of the most reliable, lightweight and compact frequency and phase converters on the market today, the ED-FPC Series can receive power generated from on-board mobile armored vehicles and convert it into clean, reliable computer-grade power for electronic equipment. In addition, with a weight of less than 80 pounds and a compact seven inch (4U) high rackmount form factor, the ED-FPC is an ideal Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) solution that can deliver computer-grade power for use in aircraft as well as ground-based and mobile systems. Its small size also provides a solution for powering sensitive computer-based equipment from generators that are typically incorporated into single and dual-pallet shelters, as well as mobile medical, combat hospital and/ or laboratory shelters. Moreover, to accommodate fixed, mobile and aircraft installations, the ED-FPC is designed to meet the shock and vibration requirements of RTCA/DO160, Zone A and the Munson Road Test. The ED-FPC has a three-phase input that accepts a wide 45-450Hz input frequency range. Having a single-phase 120Vac, 50, 60 or 400Hz output, the ED-FPC eliminates phase imbalance problems associated with powering large single-phase equipment from a three-phase generator source. The ED-FPC also eliminates line-side voltage transients, surges, sags and frequency stability problems. In addition, it provides a superior low-distortion sinewave output with +/-3% voltage regulation. Availability and Pricing Available now, the ED-FPC Series Frequency and Phase Converters are housed in an innovative “clam-shell” design, enabling users to service the unit in a more modular fashion. List pricing starts at $16,450 for the 3kVA model and all models include a one-year warranty.
