FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
IRWINDALE, CA. – November 30, 2009 – Falcon Electric, Inc., (www.falconups.com) an award-winning manufacturer of Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) power conversion and ac voltage line regulators, today announced that nearby customer Veolia Environmental has selected Falcon Electric’s SG Series™ UPS Plus® 3kVA UPS for its power protection needs. Veolia Environmental, a global organization that provides environmental services, successfully reduced downtime after upgrading their power protection from a computer-grade line-interactive “switching” UPS to Falcon’s true double conversion on-line SG3K-1T UPS. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, Veolia Environmental has over 45 treatment and disposal facilities in the U.S. and the Azusa, California location provides testing of hazardous waste, solvents and other contaminated materials that result from the large base of manufacturing companies in the area. California’s stringent environmental codes mandate all toxic waste be tested, treated and safely disposed of. These tests, which take over 14 hours to complete, are conducted by a number of very sensitive Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) instruments. Should the slightest interruption in ac power occur when the test samples are being heated, the entire test is lost. Veolia Environmental’s Technical Support Manager, Shafiqul Alam, noticed that these problems still occurred, even after installing a popular computer-grade UPS. "The new long-life, high temp batteries, combined with SSG Series’ ability to shield the battery from heat, translate to a longer period between UPS maintenance cycles," said Paul Newman, Director of Manufacturing-Engineering at Falcon Electric. "This will translate to significant cost savings, in terms of the time, money and manpower that is involved with something as simple as replacing a dead battery, especially in a remote location. A typical Falcon customer manages hundreds of devices and replacing UPS batteries is a huge headache." “According to the GC and GC/MS manufacturers, an UPS protecting this equipment has to be able to deliver power instantly and cannot have any switchover delays,” reported Mr. Alam. “After we installed the [line-interactive] UPS, we noticed the problem didn’t go away and realized the UPS had a switch-over time of several milliseconds, which proved too long for the spectrometer to continue its test run. After discussing the situation with the GC manufacturer, I realized that we needed a true on-line UPS, one that didn’t have this switch-over.” “Since installing Falcon’s on-line SG Series UPS with power monitoring software, Veolia has not lost one test because of voltage fluctuations,” added Mr. Alam. “I have purchased seven and decided to include Falcon SG Series UPS with all future additions.” About Falcon Electric: Headquartered in Irwindale, Calif., Falcon Electric, Inc. is a leading supplier of award-winning power protection and conversion solutions.
