Falcon Electric Solves Phase Imbalance Problems with New
50/60/400Hz Frequency and Phase Converters

Feature-Rich 1.5, 2 and 2.4kVA Rackmount Units Offer Small Footprint and Low Price- Ideal for Automation, Process Control, Wafer Processing and Test & Measurement Applications

IRWINDALE, Calif. – March 7, 2006 – Falcon Electric, Inc., today introduced its new ED Series™ Rackmount Frequency and Phase Converters. Falcon’s ED Series is designed to solve the phase imbalance problems encountered when connecting single-phase equipment to a three-phase 400Hz source. This new product family utilizes Falcon’s patented regenerative on-line, sinewave inverter technology to deliver the highest level of clean power. These compact 2U rackmount units feature true double-conversion design and provide frequency conversion and on-line Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) power protection (through optional external battery banks), making the ED Series the ideal solution for challenging power problems. Power hungry applications such as military and aerospace electronics, wafer processing, process control, factory automation, test and measurement and robotics can benefit from the ED Series’ robust feature-set.

The Solution to Phase Imbalance Problems
Phase imbalance occurs when single-phase equipment with various current ratings is connected to the individual phases of a three-phase source. Other three-phase equipment connected to the same power system may experience problems as a result. Phase imbalance can result in high or excessive third order harmonics, nuisance tripping of circuit breakers and destructive over-heating.

The ED Series Frequency and Phase Converters solve this problem by connecting to a 200/115Vac, 400Hz three-phase input source. The three-phase power is isolated and converted to DC, regulated and fed into an inverter. It then creates a low impedance 120Vac, 50/60/400Hz single-phase output, with +3% regulation.

Compact and Lightweight
The ED Series units are compact and lightweight, easily fitting into 19-inch rack or portable racking systems. The 1.5 and 2kVA models only weigh 45 to 50 lbs, and the 2.4kVA unit weighs 60 lbs.

Availability and Pricing
Available now, the ED Series, which offers numerous features and options, is designed to UL and cUL standards and meets FCC Class A requirements. List pricing starts at $4,590 and all models include a one-year warranty. For more information on Falcon’s innovative power protection solutions, contact a Falcon sales representative at 800-842-6940 or e-mail sales@falconups.com.
